In All Things Give Thanks!
Thessalonians 5:18
Thanksgiving Day is a national holiday in the United States commemorating the harvest of the Plymouth Colony in 1621. When it was first inaugurated, only a few eastern states participated. Sarah Hale, however, was determined to have the whole nation join together in setting apart a national day for giving thanks.
She wrote an endless flow of letters and articles to various newspapers and journals of her time and pleaded loudly and earnestly with three presidents, Fillmore, Pierce, and Buchanan (1846-1856), to establish a national day of Thanksgiving.
Finally in 1863, President Abraham Lincoln officially proclaimed the last Thursday of November as a day set apart for the national giving of thanks to almighty God.
In December 1941, a joint resolution was adopted by the U.S. Senate and the House of Representatives and signed by President Roosevelt proclaiming the fourth Thursday of November as Thanksgiving Day. This was done in order to leave more time between Thanksgiving and Christmas.
I recently read the story of a cripple man in a wheel chair who was pushing himself through a crowed mall. He was moving by the power of his own two arms, the only useful limbs he had left. As he moved along he was singing joyfully!
A passer-by turned to him pleasantly and remarked, a man in a wheelchair singing gives everyone a lift. Why is it that you are so happy? The cripple replied with a smile, well, when I stopped looking at what I had lost and began looking at what I had left, I couldn’t help but sing.
The Bible admonishes us; in all things give thanks, for this is the will of God for you. Perhaps if we too would only look at what we have and not what we don’t have we too could sing!
From our family to yours, may you have a most blessed Thanksgiving!

at Your Church?
Dr. Britt’s ministry has spanned over forty-five years. During that time he has been a pastor, evangelist, missionary, and seminary professor. He has held revivals, Bible conferences, and seminars throughout the United States and over fifty foreign countries. Unlike many evangelists, Dr. Britt accepts invitations from any church, regardless of size, and only asks that the church pay expenses for travel and lodging if possible, and take up a love offering to help fund his international ministry.

Jim, you have helped me through so many things and I know that God has created you to be the “pastor’s pastor.” It is a precious gift to be called to be a “Paul” and to lead, teach, challenge, and encourage “Timothys.” Thank you, Jim! You are and have always been a bright light in this dark world!
