We are currently working on implementing the logarithmic sweept sine method described in the attached zipped pdf-file. It also contains a very good discussion on most available measurement methods and is highly recommended. Unzip it and read it.

Hi, I purchased a personal version of WinMLS earlier this year. Recently, I decided to try the newest Beta Version of MLS. After I installed the Beta version and re-started MLS, it acted as if I was running an outdated demo version and asked me for an unlock code. When I entered the unlock code which I received when I purchased MLS, it rejected the code. I later noticed as well that installing the Beta version changed my serial number. Should I have not tried to install the Beta version? Can you help? Or should I just re-install my original version? Thanks!

Dear Ed, thanks for your question. The new beta version needs a new unlock code, it cannot use the old one. I have e-mailed you the new code so you can test it for 40 days.
Please note that we will post a new beta version update soon, and for all these updates you can use the same unlock code.
I hope this is of help.
Best, Lars

Lars,
Can we use our existing unlock codes for the most recent beta versions (WinMLS_LatestBeta.zip, Oct. 16, 2002 in download section).
The beta and my current version have different serial numbers, and I am reluctant to transfer the license as an earlier version of the beta refused the license transfer.
Thanks,
-Jon Longtin

To use the beta version, you need an unlock code for the beta version... You are right, do not transfer the license for the version you have purchased to the beta version. Send me an e-mail with the new serial number for the beta version. We posted a new update yesterday. Contact us, and we will send you information about how to download and install it. -Lars

The new beta version is posted at: http://64.41.85.4/downloadWinMLS/WinMLS2000Update/WinMLSbeta4.exe If you previously have purchased or evaluated WinMLS, send us an e-mail to get the unlock code. Otherwise, fill inn the form at http://www.nvo.com/winmls/evaluate/
The new features are not yet documented. If you test it, and have questions or suggestions or find bugs, please report it by posting a message at http://www.nvo.com/winmls/discussionbugs/
Please note that the swept sine settings and some other new options are not yet saved in the measurement settings. There will still be improvements before the release in January.
Best regards, Lars Morset

Please find a description on how to use WinMLS for performing airborne building acoustics measurements according to the ISO 140-4:1997 and ISO 717-1:1997. Above you will find a link to a word document explaining this. Contact us and we can send you a zip-file containing the setup needed to test this. You can unzip it to the folder where WinMLS is installed.

Download the attached zip-file and unzip it to the folder where you have installed WinMLS beta 063 (or later). It should give you at step-by-step procedure to measure impedance. The figures in the wizard will be improved. Comments are welcome.

Dear Mr Morset, I may have questions quite uncommon to you, but as a researcher in natural health practice I found that somewhat missing frequencies in peoples voices may have a theraputic and/or a diagnostic implementation. I have been working on his subject for about 10 years now and what I need most is a program that cam make a reliable FFT within the reach of the normal human voice and also provides me with the posiibility to make combined sinus signals from 0.1 up to 10.000 Hz. My question may strike you as odd an unprofesional, but sice I got your name from a reckord edditing studio professional I just shoot away my question thinking: well you never know what it leads up to. Any way, thanks for answering my question, if you can Peter P. van Oosterum Natural Health Practicioner

Dear Mr. Oosterum, thanks for your question. Reliable FFT analysis is supported in WinMLS. You have a large amount of flexibility in setting the parameters. Making combined sinusoidal signals is not yet supported in the software if you mean several sinusoids simultaneously. How many sinusoids would you like to generate simultaneously?

Subject surround sound measurement?

Just a thought.... I can see a potetial market for measuring surround sound systems. Is it possible to encode the stimulus to a 5.1/6.1/7.1 format so that a single coax/optical connection is all that is needed from computer to the amplifier of a surround system? Perhaps the logswept sines would survive the data compression schemes better?
This way, a ton of surround sound users could test their entire system by only setting up a single omni microphone. And the results of tweaking eq, levels and delay could be readliy seen in mls plots (as compared to doing simple measurements on the 5.1 analog inputs found on most amps that bypass internal processing)
best regards Knut Inge

Subject Surround in WinMLS 2004

Thanks for your suggestion. In WinMLS 2004 we have a setup named 'Sound System_Stereo and Surround' that will guide the user through such a measurement.
But you still need to connect the sound card left channel output to each input channel.

This is not a bug, but it is worth knowing.
If you use Matlab (a recent version like 7 R14) to create .emp files, you have to use the old MATLAB 6 format to save it, using the -v6 option, otherwise WinMLS won't be able to open the .emp file.
