Syllabus: Architects, Engineers and other design professionals think they have protected themselves from environmental liability in their standard agreements. However, there are a number of traps for the unwary and many Owners attempt to "download" environmental risks onto the project consultants. This paper, originally presented to a joint meeting of American Society of Civil Engineers and the Society of American Military Engineers, discusses some of those pitfalls and offers some suggestions for avoiding them.
