Hutsul Carpets
The Kolomyia's museum have a big collection of fabrics. The most widespread
fabric was used for covering bed or sometimes for covering walls. This
fabrics were made from wool and hemp and was decorated by strings with
two or tree different ornaments which were spread over all surface. Different
region has different color of this fabrics. You can see wool fabric made by G Gerasymovuch (1889-1974) in 1966 and wool fabric made by O. Gorbova (1907-1989) in 1977 in
bright colors from Kosiv city; the wool fabric in interesting ornament
from Sheshory village (Kosiv region) made by G. Vasylashchuk in 1985; three find of fabrics made from hemp and wool in white and black colors from
Kolomyia region made by O. Kuz'menko (1888-1978) and A.Borak in 1971, 1939, 1971.

Most original composition of fabrics is carpet. In the middle of XIX century
Kosiv was center of carpeting. Most important feature of Hutsul carpets
are wide and narrow stripe across the surface which are filed with geometric
ornaments. The surface of carpet is smooth. This carpet made by M Ganushchak
in 1966 and call "Hutsul".

Special collection of museum are fleecy wool carpets specially
made for covering beds. They are made from sheep's wool in white,
gray, brown, and black colors. The are two "bedding"s made by V.Kalynovych
in 1984 and 1988.

In present time this tradition continue to develop, and creating fabrics, carpets, and "bedding"s is a big industry. But the hand-made items are still made for personal use or market.
