Health Related Questions FAQ

QUESTION:
Since I must purchase raw foods from the supermarket, how can I safely remove waxes, oils and pesticides and make the foods safe to eat?

ANSWER:
Unfortunately, most of us are stuck with foods produced by currently harmful agricultural methods.
Even peeling will not remove all insecticides from all produce. Most of it can be removed by giving the produce a 15 to 20 minute bath in a 5% solution of vinegar or hydrochloric acid, then rinsing.
Oils and waxes can usually be removed by immersing the fruit or vegetable in hot water (160 to 180 degrees) for one to two minutes. Soapy hot water works better. Then rinse well. This treatment will also help remove pesticides.

QUESTION:
Will the raw diet cure hardened arteries? How would I go about clearing this up? My mother has this problem and a poor memory as well. She's forgetful and cannot carry on a conversation.

ANSWER:
Most senility is caused by ossification of the brain. The causes are, among others, cooked foods, cereals and other foods not suited for human ingestion.

Arterial plaques and ossification occur because inorganic minerals that the body could not or did not eliminate have combined with fatty materials to form plaque. Massive destruction of brain cells can occur due to such agents as alcohol, vinegar, nicotine, caffeine and drugs. The space left is filled in by the body with hard materials which further destroy brain tissue.

It is not definite whether remaining brain cells in senile people have sufficient impressions and enough remaining circuitry possibilities among remaining neurons and dendrites to overcome this condition. Nevertheless, there are testimonials that senility is overcome in many cases.

If unhealthful practices cause senility (as they obviously do), then it seems obvious that healthful practices will restore functioning power to the extent of a person's residual potential. Among the healthful practices that aid health is the living food diet consisting of mostly fruits, with some nuts, seeds and vegetables. An exercise program, especially walking, swimming or whatever else your mother can do, will prove of great benefit and hasten the restorative process. Fasting is the most speedy and efficacious condition for enabling the body to relieve itself of impediments and restore balance. That should be the first step. Marked improvement always occurs under the condition of the fast. I suggest that you refer to our books on fasting, proper diet and, indeed, all the essential factors and influences for wonderful health.

QUESTION:
My wife has tried to eat raw fruits and vegetables but there is something in her makeup that is given her an allergic reaction. When she eats almost any fruit or vegetable raw, she gets really sick to her stomach. She tries to eat raw foods because she sees a vast improvement in me, but I swear she cannot accommodate in foods in the raw state. She has a history of constipation, spastic colon, very painful arthritis and was told recently that she had a hyatal hernia. She is practically overcome with pain at times. She does want to change, but every time she goes to a raw diet she gets these reactions, so she feels health is not for her. Can you help us to become a back-to-nature couple?

ANSWER:
Obviously, your wife does want the wonderful feeling that accompanies good health. And she can have it, but she must employ a different approach to realize success.

I presume you are aware of the benefits of activity exercise or physical work), sunshine, fresh air, mental and emotional well-being and other factors upon which good health is built. You'll find these factors detailed in our report, The natural Health Formula #HR101.

Your wife's body has accommodated to cooked foods. The symptoms and suffering she undergoes when she eats all-raw foods can be labeled withdrawal symptoms. The best way to overcome this is for your wife to undertake total withdrawal from foods for awhile. This will also enable her body to cleanse and repair itself. In fact, with an arthritic condition, a very long fast is indicated. This should be done under supervision. Unless her conditions involve irreversible organic damage, something that is rare, I daresay she can be brought to a much higher state of health. (To say that anyone cannot live on raw foods is like saying an auto designed to use gasoline can no longer use it because it has been operating so long on kerosene.)

If your wife does not choose to fast, even for short periods on her own, a continuing diet of cooked foods will only worsen her condition. Her body is simply losing the battle with an unceasing diet of cooked foods.

I would advise that your wife eat only those raw foods which she is comfortable with. I daresay there are some she can enjoy. But she will still get those uncomfortable symptoms. Withdrawal from cooked foods and condiments is sometimes very upsetting, regardless of its necessity.

I would advise, as a last resort, that she continue eating her cooked foods while adding more raw foods every week and eating less cooked food. Within five to seven weeks, she can make a complete transition without many physical discomforts.

Keep in mind that, ideally, her diet should consist mostly of fruits with some vegetables and nuts. Avocados have the same consistency of nuts, especially pecans whose composition is almost precisely identical in proteins, fats and carbohydrates, but are far more wholesome with water, active vitamins and an alkaline metabolic end product.
It would be my pleasure to hear further from you and learn how your wife fares.

QUESTION:
Are there any specific foods that provide nutrients for slowing down the hair's graying process? I'm 33 and my hair is graying very fast!

ANSWER:
Hair does not naturally get gray until greatly advanced ages. Even 100 year olds in some countries have been observed to possess their naturally black hair. In Oklahoma I've seen Indians in their seventies with a full h~ad of black hair. There are many causes for graying hair. Most of those causes are said to be from worry and other forms of stress. Stress interferes with metabolic activities that assure proper hair pigmentation. A worry-free situation and a rather stress-free environment should lick the problem.

There are those who blame graying hair on deficiencies, more particularly deficiencies of copper in the diet, insufficient para-amino-benzoic acid (PABA), panthothenic acid and other vitamins.

The deficiency route seemed plausible when graying in rats was reversed by diets rich in these vitamins and copper. However, diets rich in these vitamins failed to reverse the condition in humans.

I suggest that you do not pay attention to your hair particularly. Try to achieve overall health. If a thoroughgoing regime of healthful living does not reverse graying, at least it will arrest it almost totally. In addition to work, play and exercise in fresh air and sunshine, there should be adequate sleep, occasional fasting, a diet of mostly fruits with some nuts, seeds and vegetables and relative freedom from worry and stressful influences.

QUESTION:
So much is said about the potential hazards of radiation from X-rays. What types of food, if any, could be used to counteract possible harm already done in the past? Sea vegetables such as kelp are supposed to be helpful. How would possible coastline pollution affect the purity of sea products? Aren't they harvested close to shore?

ANSWER:
Here we have a question that speaks of the potential hazards of X-rays or radiation. First, I'll assure you that X-rays or radiation always cause damage. They're not potential but real dangers. Once the damage has been done there's no counteracting it. The answer is not to let yourself be radiated. If you've lost your leg can you counteract it? After X-rays the damages are inflicted and are not reversible. The crime is already done. Live as healthfully as possible after the fact so that the damage done is not added to from yet other injurious practices.

So this talk about seaweed is meaningless. Healthful living does not encompass eating of seaweed for they are not a normal part of the human dietary. There are antidotal effects if seaweed are present whilst the X-rays are undergone. Lead is an even better antidote. But neither is this the answer. The answer is not to subject yourself to causes if you do not wish to suffer results.

And, in any event, if you live as healthfully as possible, you'll suffer the least. Unwholesome living magnifies the effects of damage whereas healthful living minimizes it.

QUESTION:
How can I go on the raw food diet? My dentures prevent chewing just about everything you say I should be eating.

ANSWER:
While eating raw foods in the whole natural state is ideal, it is impractical for those who have been crippled, either through loss of teeth or because of digestive impairments.

We suggest that you invest in a blender, a juicer and a nut grinder. You can follow the living food dietary of fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds well with these appliances as aids.

Make sure to eat your blended salads, juiced vegetables and nut or seed butters as soon after mechanical reduction as possible to forego a minimum of nutrient loss due to oxidation.

QUESTION:
Caffeine is known to be harmful in the body. I've read several articles which say that women who experience soreness of their breasts during menstruation have noticed a definite improvement after stopping caffeine (coffee, tea, chocolate and soft drinks). Would the tendency to develop fibrocysts under the influence of caffeine be connected with the eventual development of breast cancer? If that is the case, wouldn't it be all the more reason to avoid Coffee and caffeine?

ANSWER:
Fruits are delightful and wholesome foods just as are peaches. But coffee seeds like the pits of peaches, are very toxic. Caffeine is incorporated into the seeds to insure that they are not eaten so as to insure their broadcast and reproduction. The wholesome fruit is an animal's reward for distributing the seed. However, leave it to perverted humans to foul up the natural order and themselves as well!

Caffeine begets a whole host of evils including breast tumors, which evolve into cancer. To quarantine toxic materials including caffeine, the body concentrates it in a place and indurate tissue around it, thus forming a hard sac or cyst. If the poisoning process continues the tumor area enlarges or additional tumors are formed. Eventually, with continued morbid practices, the situation gets out of hand and perpetual toxicity deranges the cells -- they become cancerous, that is, they lose contact with the organism as useful members and fend for themselves by drawing upon body resources but contributing nothing in return. Under all circumstances caffeine should be eschewed.

QUESTION:
Is it really necessary to do special exercises for fitness?

ANSWER:
Today the need for systematic regular exercise is extremely necessary. Modern invention and ingenuity have made us a race of sitters and semi-invalids and compensatory activities must be indulged to offset the harmful effects of this lazy existence.

QUESTION:
How early may children be given exercise?

ANSWER:
The baby, if supplied with proper food sunshine and rest and not hampered with too much clothing. Readily takes its own exercise by vigorously moving its arms and legs raising its head rolling over. Crying. Etc. In addition parents can devise ways to assist their babies in developing strength and coordination. They can let the baby grip their fingers and then pull the baby up. Also. They can exercise the baby 5 as and legs by pushing them back and forth. The baby will soon learn to resist and will appreciate and benefit by this activity'.

After the child gains sufficient intelligence to understand, he should be urged to run. jump. climb trees. Swim, wrestle, skate, and play in the hundreds of ways there are for perfect physical development. Extremely heavy exercises should not be done by those under eighteen years because bone formation is not sufficiently mature until early adulthood has been reached.

Rounded shoulders, Spinal curvatures, bulging abdomens, and poor chest development should and can be pre-vented and remedied by early attention. Parents should take note of these matters before thev are irremediable. When young men and women become conscious of flat chests, curvatures, etc., often a great amount of rigidity and compensation have occurred which require great diligence in correction, where. at an early age. these tendencies can be remedied with comparative ease by watchful parents.

QUESTION:
Should older folk's exercise?

ANSWER:
It is highly beneficial for older people to enjoy mild sports and calisthenics. Those accustomed to vigorous exercises can continue indefinitely. Lionel Strongfort, the sensational theatrical strong man, was able, at sixty to perform every feat of strength which he had ever done in his lifetime.

QUESTION:
Should one go to bed "on a full stomach?

ANSWER:
There is a natural tendency to go to sleep immediately after eating a full meal. In the animal kingdom, a full meal is almost always followed by a period of rest and sleep. There is no reason for the prevailing fear of "going to bed on a full stomach." Indeed, there is reason to believe that digestion is better while asleep. Only gluttons who eat so much that they are uncomfortable need fear sleeplessness after a eating

QUESTION:
I hear so much about napping lately, what so good about napping?

ANSWER:
Napping is extremely important for everyone from birth to 150 plus years old. Taking a cat nap after lunch improves digestion, absorption, and assimilation and promotes better health through better nutrition. Taking daily naps prevents excessive fatigue and promotes better and more efficient work performance. Yes, resting and napping actually increases our productivity. Taking a 10 to 15 minute rest every hour or two helps us to get more done in less time. When one is fatigue, mental insight and physical powers are greatly diminished. Resting, including napping, sharpens the mind and body. By napping and preventing excessive exhaustion, we are less nervous and irritable at night, and therefore, we can fall asleep much quicker. it has been shown that there are fewer marital problems in those people who rest after lunch than in those who must put in long days without an afternoon nap or rest period.

If you go to bed exhausted, the body must first recuperate before it can begin its anabolic processes, cell renovation, cell renewal, healing, and repair. A well-rested person going to bed will be more fully recuperated in the morning. A person going to bed exhausted will wake up only half refreshed and must face another day without relaxation, so he or she is never fully revitalized, repaired or replenished. And thus, as a consequence, toxemia and disease are the results.

Learn and discipline yourself to nap and rest on a daily basis. Rest during and instead of a coffee and lunch breaks instead of stimulating yourself with food and drinks. rest as soon as you arrive home from work. You will notice a definite physical and mental improvement when you obtain more rest and prevent fatigue.

"Before the flood men are said to have lived five and even nine hundred years, and today physiologists, can assert positively that there is no fact reached by science to contradict or render this improbable. It is more difficult, on scientific grounds, to explain why men die at all, than to believe in the duration of life for a thousand years."
