This is a place for friends, relatives and anyone else to post a comment before, during or after Tim and Jonny's Big Summer Trip 2002. Let us know: Is Tim crazy for taking on all that driving? Is Jonny crazy for taking on all that time with Tim? What happens if Jonny decides in Pennsylvania that he'd rather go to summer camp after all?

Do you have any suggestions for places to visit? Places to eat? Routes to drive? Ways to stay awake behind the wheel? Would you like us to come and stay with you? Would you rather we just do a driveby and you can wave at us as we go past? Do you want to come along on part of the trip? If you could, where would you like to ride along?

Hi Tim and Jonny,

Just wanted you to know that we are preparing for the travelers extraordinaire visit to the Harrington/Mashman lodge. We understand the reservation is for three and that the party will be come as you are.

Deirdre left a lengthy phone message. I'll add a tad. I acquired two tickets (total) to the Giants/Cardinals game at PacBell Park on Monday night. The game starts at 7:15PM and must leave the house by 6PM. We do not know your time of arrival at our establishment and we do not know what time Lizzie is arriving at the airport Monday. Here are some options:
You are welcome anytime Sunday, Monday or whenever. If you can get here by 5PM Monday, you can choose two to go to the old ball game. Deirdre has offered to go to the airport to pick up Lizzie. Alternatively I could take Jonny to the game and you and Deirdre could go to the airport. Whatever works depending on your interest in America's pastime and a great ballpark. I can always go to PacBell.

If you cannot get to our place by 6PM Monday, we have a problem that we will address by telephone. Perhaps a neighbor will be home with a key. We will both be home all day on Monday prepping the lodge for the onslaught. Remember that ciaos is fun and we will have a wonderful time. We are looking forward to your visit!!

We also need to know what type of car you have. If it is a monster SUV, we may have a problem with parking, but there is always a solution. If it is a normal car or wagon, we will put ours on the street (it has a special neighborhood sticker) and you can park yours in our paid garage (the lodge for some reason came without a garage). Street parking is a challenge and you would not want to have anything visible. Note: you can bring up any valuables to the lodge. We'll find room. The garage is safe, but bicycles, computers, etc. should come inside.

So, we need three things from you: Time of arrival, type of vehicle, Lizzie arrival time and who wants to go to the old ballgame. (OK four things).

We STRONGLY recommend you avoid the approach to SF before 10AM and between 4PM and 7PM. It is a parking lot.
Directions to the lodge:
I presume you are coming from the East and you can find your way across the Bay Bridge simply by following signs to San Francisco.

On the Bay Bridge stay in the left lane and get off at 5th Street exit (there is another street mentioned, but I forgot its name. Not to worry it says 5th as well). It is the 2nd left exit in the city. You will wind around on the off ramp and come to a signal (Harrison Street) where you will turn left. You will travel past 6th to 7th street where you will make a right turn.
Follow 7th Street into the city past Howard, Mission, and Market Streets. Just after Market Street you will be forced to make a left turn (T intersection) and then want to make a quick right turn (kind of like an "S") onto Leavenworth Street. This street has linked signals and you will be be traveling through the hard luck part of SF. You will pass Bush (not difficult), Pine, and eventually get to California St. It has cable car tracks.
Turn left on California and go one street to Hyde Street. Turn right on Hyde Street. Proceed past Sacramento St. and you will be at a stop sign (Clay St.). Go straight and we are the 3rd lodge on the left hand side of the street at 1317 Hyde. It is a Tudor style building. We live on Hyde between Clay and Washington. You can either pull into one of the driveways on the right or make a u-turn and park in the closer bus stop to do a quick unload. Ring our bell #6 and we will march down for traditional greetings and to help you unpack. Keep your flashers on in the bus stop and have Jonny stay with the vehicle. The fine is nasty, but you will not get a ticket unloading. I'll escort you to the garage. Showers, laundry, food and two buddies await your arrival.

Cheers,
Mel & Deirdre
