Autonomic Logistics Management System (ALMS)

The Autonomic Logistics Management System (ALMS) is the commercial version of the Precision Sea-Based Logistics (PSL) that was developed for the Marine Corps in 2002.

ALMS technology was designed specifically with the military supply chain environment in mind, so it completely addresses the needs of Performance Based Logistics (PBL). It can be used by prime contractors, subcontractors, and  suppliers for logistics management in PBL enterprise.

ALMS Features

ALMS is designed to manage military supply chain enterprises. Following are the descriptions of main features of the ALMS:

Automatic Part Tracking

This feature allows the user to track a part through the ordering and maintenance cycles. Using the hardware and interfaces to the system that are deployed to suppliers and maintainers, ALMS allows continuous updates to the system with the latest status of an order or maintenance activity.

Logistics Request Processing

All requests for parts or maintenance are received by the ALMS system and are forwarded to the appropriate processing routes. A typical example would be a request for a spare part made by your customer via their interface (Web) to ALMS which is received by the RRC and then forwarded on to the LEC (see next section). If the part is not in the inventory, a request is automatically made (via LEC) to suppliers to send the part.

Automatic Logistics Task Execution

This feature automates the execution of certain logistics tasks such as automatically ordering a part from a supplier, or scheduling a maintenance task based on events detected in the system.

Decision Support

The DSS feature enables automatically routing orders to the vendors who have the parts available as well as for optimal scheduling of work order execution at the maintenance facility.
