Because of COP 17, I am giving you, the public, open access to my "official" office song, We did not Start the Fire, by Billy Joel. I am also giving you open access to my 2010 European Wind Energy Convention (EWEC) paper,The Effect That a US Signature on a Kyoto-II Climate Change Mitigation Treaty (or an Equivalent US Domestic Climate Change Mitigation Policy) Will Have on the US Wind Industry.

I believe that I am one of the few energy economists on planet Earth with an office song.
The song was sent to me by a classmate from the Class of '62, Niles Township High School (Skokie, IL USA). Our 50th class reunion is in 2012.
As noted below, I tried to grow algae for my student science project (1961) at Niles Twp HS (NileHi to you locals from the 60's). The algae did not grow but I was still allowed to graduate (1962).
Also noted below, I started to learn about energy economics while in the United States Army Reserves (USAR)
One thing about my office song. It has is energy.
Another thing about the song is that it makes economics, the dismal science, less dismal.
Here is a part of my 2010 EWEC paper's timeline (in dd/mm/yy) on the development of the US domestic climate change mitigation policy.
01/06/52--US Government “Paley Commission” recommends that the US have a national
energy policy.
1961-------Stavy, the author, tries to grow algae for his high school (Niles Township,
Skokie, IL USA) science project. Algae fail to grow. Author still graduates.
1968-1974-Stavy, the author, was a member (E-3) of the USAR 308th Civil Affairs Group, Chicago, IL. Group
did social, political and economic area studies for future reference.
12/03/72--Club of Rome publishes report “The Limits of Growth”
01/06/79--Carter announces that he is putting solar panels (to produce hot water) on the
White House roof.
1983-------World’s first “feed-in tariff”, California Standard Offer #4, makes possible the
installation of 1,200 MW of California wind turbines.
1986-------Reagan removes Carter’s solar panels from White House while roof is being
repaired. Does not replace solar panels when roof repairs are complete.
06/12/92--US signs the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCC)
23/10/03--EU-ETS enters into force before the Protocol went into effect.
Since the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCC) entered into force (21 March 1994), the parties to the UNFCC have been meeting annually in the Conference of the Parties (COP) to assess the progress in dealing with climate change. Beginning in the mid-1990's, the COP was used to negotiate the Kyoto Protocol. The Protocol was initially adopted on 11 Dec 1997 in Kyoto Japan (Kyoto-I), it entered into force on 16 Feb 2005 and, since it was not extended at COP 17, it will end on 31 Dec 2012. COP 17 was held 28 Nov-9 Dec 2011 in Durban, South Africa.
Because of COP 17, I am giving you, the public, open access to my office song and to my 2010 EWEC paper and poster.
