As of the date listed below, I have helped Illinois non-residential utility clients purchase over 55,000,000 kWh (55,000 MWh) of electricity and 9,762 therms (976.2 mmBtu) of natural gas.
- The State of Illinois' electric and natural gas utility industries are now deregulated.
Non-residential Illinois electric/natural gas customers can now buy energy on the open market. All non-residential ComEd customers were eligible to buy electricity from any certified provider alternative (Retail Electric Supplier [RES]) or from ComEd [the Northern Illinois legacy retail electric vendor and transmission and distribution operator]) effective December 31, 2000. All non-residential Ameren customers were eligible to buy electricity from any certified provider alternative (Retail Electric Supplier [RES]) or from Ameren [the Central Illinois legacy retail electric vendor and transmission and distribution operator]) effective December 31, 2000. On January 1, 2007, the rate freeze for ComEd and Ameren residential and small business electric customers will end. ComEd and Ameren's small business electric prices are projected to increase 21% over the current rate freeze prices. I help clients with significant electric bills to get better prices for electricity in the post freeze era. The post freeze era is also know as the auction based rate period. November 17, 2006 is the deadline for ComEd customers with loads of 100 kW to 10 MW and above**. This is a "soft" deadline. Small businesses will still be able to switch electric vendors and not just accept the default ComEd auction based rate. These ComEd customers must decide if they want to accept the ComEd auction based rate. My practice is based on the assumption that in Illinois' competitive electric market, non-residential utility customers** will be able to get a rate that is better then the ComEd auction based rate. Ameren had a different deadline to switch. - I have been helping Illinois clients buy electricity/natural gas since April, 2005
I analyze non-residential utility customers' electric (ComEd; Ameren) and natural gas bills (Peoples Gas; Nicor; Ameren). I help clients shop for a good price in Illinois' competitive electric market. My renewable energy consulting has given me experience in Illinois' competitive electric/natural gas markets. Why, you ask, does my experience in renewable energy (wind, solar) project development give me experience in buying electricity and natural gas? Good Question! In order to know if renewable energy is cost competitive with the grid's electricity and natural gas, I have to compute what the client is currently paying for electricity/natural gas. Advise clients on the subtle yet important complex details of buying electricity and natural gas in Illinois' competitive energy markets. To make an appointment go to My Contact Information
**These loads correspond to ComEd's Very Small Load Delivery Class (up to 100kW), Small Load Delivery Class (100kW – 400kW), Large Load Delivery Class(400kW – 1MW), Very Large Load Delivery Class (1MW – 10MW) and Extra Large Load Delivery Class (above 10 MW)
