Kofi Anan broke his silence last month and publicly declared Iraq war illegal. An apology by the US government or an acknowledgement by the opposition party of J. F. Kerry that may take office in few weeks is the least to expect, especially when war realities is the only mask stuck to the skull and bone of the Bush administration. That apology should include a strong reference to the ideological inferiority of US officials, a monetary compensation for damage done, and immediate withdrawal of American troops from Iraq. Oops, not so fast, it seems our screams are factored in much like the price of oil is claimed to be factored in a stagnant economy! The show must go on.
For a man few weeks away from possibly holding the highest office in the nation and most powerful in the world, J. F. Kerry is in no position to accept Kofi Anan’s gift - A straight bullet to the knots and bolts of his opponent’s claims. A half skeleton of the man he used to be in 1971, Kerry needs to walk a fine line indeed; his support for the war and for Israel is as solid as his opponent, and the only deviation marking him from his opponent is his naďve vision of convincing leading nations to contribute funds and troops to a lost war. That sounds like another “Bring ‘em on” Kerry style. What nation wants to sacrifice its men and women and further strain its economy in such global market turbulence?
Anan’s gift to Kerry was handed back with a “return to sender” written all over it, the march of the American elite in defiance to domestic and world opinion will continue; how will the US get itself out of a deeper hole? That remains to be seen
With the way corporate media outfits are working hard to portray Kerry and Bush indifferent and head to head in a close election, the first presidential debate represented a “let’s get the Iraq war bundled early” scheme with Kerry giving Bush a buddy-like slap on the face for not managing the war and its aftermath according to the script. The next debates are likely to focus on the economy and domestic issues giving corporate media the opportunity to bring in Kerry’s unworkable vision into prospective hoping to win support to continue the war and create more chaos.
Very disappointing to see how the American dream has worked for a former ideological young activist out of an unjust and criminal war in Vietnam. A leader is always in charge and in control of his destiny, unfortunately for Kerry his integrity was damaged beyond repair long ago in the corridors of the US government in Washington DC.
A message to Senator Kerry: the US and the world were not waiting to hear from Mr. Anan what was already known, Anan’s public declaration was more expected first and foremost to come from you, and when you alternatively failed to endorse that declaration during the first presidential debate, you’ve lost whatever little dignity you had left.
