XBRM helps disaster recovery and emergency management professionals develop behaviorally-accurate plans and polices through education and training in  disaster human factors. This approach, known as "Behavior-based Emergency Preparedness and Response (BEPR), employs behavioral mapping and other techniques, that allows planners and responders to more effectively predict and prepare for the behavioral response of different populations to a variety of hazard scenarios.  BEPR provides an evidence-informed approach to test the validity of the behavioral assumptions that underlie existing and evolving emergency plans, procedures and policies.

As such, XBRM offers both instructor-lead and distance learning educational opportunities for professionals working in various roles, such as:

Programs, Schedules & Fees

XBRM has developed this unique online learning opportunity explore this important facet of emergency preparedness and response with one of the nation's foremost experts in disaster-related behaviors. The small, convenient and affordable webinar sessions were developed bring useful and practical behavior-based information to all types of professionals involved in the emergency management and disaster recovery cycle.  

The Fall 2007 Webinar Series begins on Tuesday, October 9. Each one-hour program is offered twice, at 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM (EST) to accomodate participants across different time zones. After registration and payment, participants are provided with a secure web address and call-in code. Each session is limited to 30 participants to ensure adequate time for questions, comments and discussion. There is a $69.00 (USD) fee for each session. Participants who register for all nine sessions receive a 10% discount of the total cost.

About the Instructor

Steve Crimando, Managing Director of XBRM, is the instructor for the Fall 2007 Webinar Series. Serving as the lead instructor and moderator, he will help participants understand the program content and implications for disaster recovery and emergency management. Steve is an internationally known clinician and educator specialized in the emotional and behavioral response to disasters and terrorism. He is a Board Certified Expert in Traumatic Stress and a Diplomate of the American Academy of Experts in Traumatic Stress. He has been awarded Level III Certification in Homeland Security.  He is the Vice Chair of the Forensic Counseling Division of the American College of Forensic Examiners International and the former Executive Director of the New Jersey Critical Incident Stress Debriefing Network. Steve serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Trauma Counseling International, and is an Adjunct Professor at the Rutgers Univeristy Center for Management Development and in the Fairleigh Dickinson University Master of Science in Homeland Security program.

Steve served as a Disaster Field Operations Supervisor for FEMA’s response to the 9/11 WTC attacks and coordinated onsite psychological services at New Jersey’s anthrax screening center.  He also helped coordinate crisis response efforts at such incidents as the 1993 World Trade Center bombing, Unabomber attacks and TWA Flight 800 crash. He serves as a consultant and trainer for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security; U.S. Department of Justice; Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA); U.S. Public Health Service; U.S. Postal Service and the United Nations.  He is a frequent trainer at health care, human service, and law enforcement agencies, as well as private businesses.  Steve is the author several published articles and book chapters. He has been featured for his work in crisis prevention and response in the New York Times, and has appeared on both network and cable news and talk shows, as well as in the courts as a subject matter expert addressing public and private sector crisis prevention and response.
