Security & Risk Management Seminar
Technological & Social Solutions To Security Issues
Presentation Abstract
Examiners require that financial institutions must continually assess both current and emerging technological solutions that contribute to the security function's ability to reduce losses from both internal and external sources. Technological solutions can't stand alone, however, as a deterrent -- the institution must also develop and implement effective policies, procedures, risk assessment practices and targeted training programs.
This presentation uses the "people, places and things" concept to promote the integration of technological, physical and behavioral techniques that may avert or eliminate losses. Participants will learn about the relationships among the industry-standard security priorities:
l Employees, insiders and institution-affiliated parties -- and their families
l Customers, vendors, third-party service providers -- and other persons lawfully on the premises
l Facilities and equipment that the institution owns, manages, maintains, leases or controls
l Assets that are both tangible and intangible -- particularly the institution's image
l Records and documents that exist in all paper and electronic forms
Changes to the institution's leadership, operations, membership -- or changes in the community the institution serves -- will necessitate a change in the institution's security environment. This change in security environment will likely require the:
l Acquisition and placement of enhanced security devices
l Development of enhanced policies and procedures
l Initial training for some employees and re-training for others
