Our goal is to provide the highest quality legal service to our small and medium-sized clients at an affordable cost. We believe we can achieve these goals without requiring our team members to work hundreds of hours per week and without impacting our viability as a business.

We are able to meet these commitments by sticking to the following core principles:

1. Simplicity

The best way to provide the right solution and keep costs down is to zero in on the critical issues as soon as possible and then develop the simplest solution that delivers the desired results.  We work closely with our clients to understand their businesses and accurately define their needs.  This allows us to deliver a result that makes sense for you at a cost that matches the importance of the matter to you.

2. The Right People 

We only do legal work that we can do exceedingly well and refer work to other law firms if we believe you will be better served.  We believe that "better people make better lawyers".  We are interested in bright creative people - not billing machines.

3.   Move Away from Hourly Rates

Hourly billing does not promote the efficient delivery of legal services.  We have fundamentally changed the way legal services are priced so as to provide incentives to achieve fast innovative solutions to your legal needs.

4.   No Hidden Charges

Unlike other firms we do not charge for secretarial overtime, word processing, photocopying, faxing, local or long distance telephone calls or software licence fees.  We charge our clients only for costs we incur using third party vendors.  In matters involving an unusually large expense we will consult with you before incurring the expense.

We do not charge for time that does not call upon our education and experience as a lawyer or time spent on research in an unfamiliar area of law.

The following is a list of items that we do not charge to clients:

• transmittal letters that do not contain significant legal analysis or recommendations
• short phone calls that do not lead to immediate legal work
• any activity that does not work towards resolution of the client's matter
• any activity that deals with general information about the client
• any activity that does not add value to the client's matter
• update or general information calls to or from the client

5.   Space Costs and Efficiency

Expensive offices do not improve the value of legal services.  We significantly reduced our costs by relocating to one of Calgary's best executive office centres.  From this central "hub" our contract members have a physical location for meeting with clients and centralized office support.

In addition to billing and compensation models designed to promote effectiveness and efficiency, we give every team member has the best possible technology to share information and access all of the firm's online resources.

We are striving to become a paperless office.

6.   Electronic Reporting and Invoicing

Our office produces over 15 square kilometres of paper per year, so why not say goodbye to paper reports and choose to receive your reporting online?  Not only is it easy, convenient and free to go paperless, but you will be doing a little something to save a few trees as well - plus you will have one less thing to file, shred or lose.
