The Winter Championship Heat was taken out by Sand Sweeper at massive odds. A great training performance by John Wheeler and his foreman Brett Scott as Sand Sweeper's previous run was in the Von Doussa Steeplechase at Oakbank where he was pulled up.
The team of Bill and Symon Wilde is on fire and their latest city win came with Starkron in the Tiger Corporation Handicap at Flemington. Damien Oliver was the pilot and he kept his hopes alive of winning the Victorian Jockeys Premiership with a double on the day.
Another father and son team produced a double on the day - Ross McDonald with Swift Bay and son Clinton with Pacino (above).
