There are a lot of books that have been written on how to lose weight and stay fit.  For some of you these have worked wonders, especially if you are consistent in going back and reading these books and maintaining their ideas and strategies.

 

But, for others, reading weight loss and fitness books soon gets forgotten. The books find their way onto the bookshelves as obesity returns and discouragement sets in. Fitness goes out the window and the old mentality clouds the mind, creating a vicious cycle of defensive resistance and stuck thinking. It's time to get out of the rut!

 

One important question: Do you want to lose your unwanted fat and get down and stay fit at your ideal weight?

 

One of the biggest problems that I see with people who have problems with diet and exercise is that they are afraid of trying all over again and then fail at being able to permanently keep the fat off while staying fit.

 

I can tell you that I've been there and back. I have been fat and I have been fit. After years of frustration, I felt it's time to get off the roller coaster and the yo-yo syndrome ... permanently!

 

I'm not going to kid you or feed you a lot of BS. I talk from experience. Back in the early 70s I wrote my Ph.D. dissertation entitled the "Psychology of Obesity". I had to defend it in front of a room full of students and a table full of fat university presidents and professors.

 

Some of the professors on the.dissertation panel felt a little bit threatened. I don't blame them.  Fear and shame can keep you locked into obesity  But I'll go into that later. I weighed 180 pounds of romp stompin handsome male muscle and I was in my mid-30s.

 

But previously, I had gone up to 215 pounds and I thought it was time to get back on track and get back in shape. I became the experiment and I succeeded. With that, I published a great dissertation. But, that was just the beginning...

The History of "Get Fit, Lose Fat"

How It All Began ...

I began to conduct weight loss workshops and seminars using all the methods that I had learned as a trained and licensed psychotherapist with a Ph.D. in psychology. Every one of the people in those seminars lost weight and reached their target goals. But I failed in one major way. I did not have an extensive program for permanent - and I mean - permanent fat loss.

 

The result was that I got caught up in the get fat and get slim yo-yo syndrome. I even went up to 300 pounds and then back down to 207 pounds, my ideal weight. At that point, I decided enough is enough. I went on my "tough love, get fit/lose fat and keep it off permanently" program. I then devised a program where I added my previous soft love approaches to the tough love approach, just to balance out the program.

 

So, I ended up with a highly developed and researched, scientific approach to helping others get fit, lose fat and keep it off forever. I knew that I didn't want to do it all with a book, because many people don't like to read. I chose to use a seminar/workshop CD approach and experimented with other ways to reach as many people as possible.

I knew that a tough love approach would throw a lot of resistance in my face.But, after the initial trials, we were getting 100% success and then I knew I had to emphasize a program of weight loss, embedded in the content of the program.

You see ... old habits are hard to eliminate. Old habits return and you find yourself going back to watching food channels, food commercials, cooking shows, while the couch potato becomes the couch elephant. Fitness channels are forgotten and your exercise program consists of hand to mouth movements as you reshovel gargantuan amounts of food over your lips and on to your belly and hips. Soon your find yourself fatter than ever. It's addictive ...
