The Hummingbird was established over 24 years ago by the vivacious Joan Alexander Stowe, better known as Joyce, a native of Soufriere who started out as a waitress in a nearby resort who always had the burning desire to start her own business , in 1978 her dream came true and along with her English boyfriend created the Hummingbird House , in 1979 expanded to the beach front property the Hummingbird Resort was created, 1983 Joyce bought out her partners share of the Hummingbird and became the sole owner and has excelled ever since, in 1997 Joyce became the first hotelier to be honored with the prestigious award of “The Hotelier of the year”, today Joyce continues to run the Hummingbird as efficiently Due to the fact that Joyce resides on the property her presence contributes to the ambience of the resort, Joyce enjoys pampering her guests to make their stay at the Hummingbird a memorable one.

Currency What is the currency in St. Lucia? Can I use credit cards? The unit of currency in St. Lucia is the Eastern Caribbean Dollar, which is fixed at a rate of US$1.00=EC$2.67. Rates will vary a bit depending on where you exchange money, but US currency is also widely accepted. Most tourist shops and restaurants do accept credit cards. We accept Master Card, Visa and American Express.

Location Is the resort located near the beach ? Yes, the beach is just one step beyond our beach bar . All beaches in St. Lucia are public.

Beach Are there other beaches close by ? Yes, 1 1/4 miles away you can find Anse Chastanet Beach . There you can snorkel or scuba dive. This beach is popular with visitors to St. Lucia .

Going by Boat . How do we get there ? Although this beach is within walking distance and motorable, the road is narrow and in need of repair. Thus we can arrange for a water-taxi to take you there .

Tours Are any tours available at your resort ? At your request we can arrange both land tours and sea excursions . You will be able to visit the Rain Forest, Sulphur Springs, Mineral Bath as well as go snorkelling or fishing via water-taxi.

Town How far are you from town ? Town is within walking distance of the resort. There you can find most shops as well as banks and the Post office .

Rooms Are all your rooms air conditioned? No. We currently have just one air conditoned room. However all our rooms have ceiling fans including the cottage. The Cottage is across the road from the Resort.
