Subject orthotic rigidity

Date Fri Oct 5 2001 06:52
Author Rudy Marchildon (orthotics@precisionorthotics.com)

Chris: I have been interested in this whole issue of material rigidity for some time, in addition to the elements that you mentioned having an effect I believe that the length of the overall foot has an effect. I have designed an experiment which I believe will allow me to refine what I refer to as "flexible", "semi-rigid" and "rigid" devices based upon patient weight, foot shape and foot size. I haven't at this time had an opportunity to complete the actual work, but my objective is to define the degree of deflection in the medial arch apex that would correlate to the above flexibilties. If I'm able to create these definitions then it would enhance the clinical outcomes for our clients. I will keep you posted.
cheers
Rudy
