Bell Island Mine Shaft

The "Avalon Peninsula Discoverer " is a two day one night geological tour which includes traversing the Avalon Peninsula's unique geology. This tour is guided and facilitated by a geologist with many years experience in the mineral exploration industry across Newfoundland and Labrador and Canada and is moderately Spanish speaking. The tour will present opportunities to gather samples of locally found rocks minerals and fossils. There will also be visits to unique geological locations, a former mine and a presently operating mine.

The tour package include accommodations, all meals and entrance fees to the historic sites plus a few surprises. The exclusive tour can accommodate up to six passengers in roomy modular seating and air-conditioned comfort. The tour will include the following and more:



  • Visits to the closed Bell Island Mine and a currently operating pyrophyllite mine.
  • Visit the Manuals River Trilobite beds and the Mistaken Point fossil occurances.
  • Visit at least four mineral and rock collecting sites and two fossil collecting localities.

  • Different dates for this tour can be arranged upon request for groups of four to six.
