MERCADITO MIDTOWN, MIAMI FL
We enjoyed everything at Mercadito, the décor with murals by artist Erni Vales, the attentive service and the upscale food of chef-owner Patricio Sandoval. Mercadito’s bar service which includes over one hundred tequilas, a full bar, and a friendly wine list was designed and is managed by Tippling Bros who are masters of creativity. They designed an array of outstanding specialty drinks that balance sweetness, fruitiness, and spiciness. Flavors dance in your tongue and palate, opening your appetite in unusual ways. We tried the b.n.g.t.m (big nose goes to Mexico) $12, the Pepino El Pyu $9.50, the Smokey Pablo $12. Ingredients like guava, Ordeat, Hoja Santa, cumin, mango, Chile Morita, and blueberry float are part of these delicious drinks. We sampled two shots of tequila, a Partida reposado $15 with a chaser of Sangrita, a combination of tomato juice, cucumber, orange, pomegranateand spices, a satisfying sweet and spicy chaser. Our second tequila shot was their organic Cazadores Reposado which was chocolaty, creamy and complex in the palate. |

Our dinner included a trio of guacamole $13.50: the Traditional, the Granada, and the Chipotle which was smoky and perfectly spiced. Tortillas and crackers are homemade. We tasted the Mahi Mahi Ceviche Dorado; two items that will be in their spring menu starting February 1st: a taco combination of red snapper in adobo marinade, and a red snapper fillet with fresh citrus sauce. We also had the pork tacos Carnitas $14.50, and the Montadito rice, a recipe of chef Patricio's mother, Rosi. Again here, ingredients like Chile de Arbol, peanuts, cilantro based rice, Acapulco Poblano green pepper, and Epasote are part of the dishes. There is definite passion behind the culinary concept at Mercadito, as well as vision in the décor and ambiance, which embodies all the qualities of a high-end New York restaurant. Pricing at Mercadito was reasonable, while the food, service, and ambiance were outstanding. Mercadito Midtown offers by far the most sophisticated Mexican food, and remains our favorite dining spot in Miami.
