Projects, Past and Present

CURRENT PROJECTS:

Continuation of traditional OIA Annual Barbecue.  The annual barbecue helps to generate funding for other OIA projects.

Continued support for Oceano Elementary School Crossing Guard.

Support and contributions to the Oceano Depot and the Oceano Community Center.

Assist in finding a new location for the Oceano Library

Increase OIA membership.  We currently have 76 members (January 2006)).

PROJECTS UNDER CONSIDERATION:

Assist in the restoration of the Caboose at the Oceano Depot.  This rare wooden caboose is over 100 years old and is in dire need of exterior paint and wood preservation.  The caboose may be seen in the "Oceano Photos" section.

Assist with improvements for the Dr. Rudolf W. Gerber Memorial Park which is on the Oceano Depot grounds.  The park includes a rose garden, concrete tables and benches, and a dedication plaque.

Assist the Oceano Fire Dept. in the restoration of their 1956 Fire Engine.  This engine served the community for over 40 years as Engine #1, and now needs to be repainted and have some of the chrome replated.  At the present time  there is no protected storage area for the engine and it is exposed to the elements.  Before restoration efforts can begin, a permanent storage area must be found to protect the engine from further damage by the weather.

Name change of Cienega and Front Street to Pacific Coast Highway.
