DR. RON BENNER ELECTED AOA TRUSTEE

Ronald L. Benner, O.D., was elected to the American Optometric Association Board of Trustees at the 118
th Annual AOA Congress & 45th Annual AOSA Conference: Optometry's Meeting
 in June 2015.

Dr. Benner has served on the AOA-Political Action Committee (AOA-PAC) since 2006, serving as committee chair since 2010. Prior to his time with AOA-PAC, Dr. Benner has served on the Professional Relations, Nominating, Credentials, and Geriatrics Committees, and has been an AOA member since 1982.

A past president of the Montana Optometric Association (MOA), Dr. Benner has held numerous roles within the MOA, as well as within the Great Western Council of Optometry, serving as Board of Directors chair. Dr. Benner has been honored with the MOA Young Optometrist of the Year Award, MOA Distinguished Service Award and, twice, MOA Optometrist of the Year Award.

A graduate of Pacific University College of Optometry, Dr. Benner has been active in his community, serving in numerous civic and faith-based organizations.

Dr. Benner owns and operates a private practice clinic in Laurel, Montana, and is an adjunct faculty member at Rocky Mountain College in Billings, Montana.

AOA Resources Help Members Comply With New HIPAA Rules

HIPAA guidelines are becoming more stringent thanks to recent changes in federal law. September 23, 2013 was the compliance deadline.

New HIPAA Notice of Privacy Practice forms are available from the AOA Marketplace. To order, email orders@aoa.org. Or call the AOA Marketplace at 800-262-2210 between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. CDT, Monday through Friday. Include your member number to qualify for a discount.  AOA MEMBER BENEFIT
AOA's staff and volunteers handle thousands of questions from members each month, with many of the questions related to medical records, coding insurance contracts, Medicare and other third party issues.  In an effort to provide members with additional resources, AOA has approved the creation of AOACodingToday.com, a web based source of information related to codes and services.  Offices have previously been able to subscribe to this service for $349/year.  AOA members will be able to subscribe at no cost, in recognition of their having renewed their membership.
