Advanced major subjects
Metabolism, Eukaryotic Molecular Biology, Neurobiology, Entomology, Green Ecology, Plant Cell Biology, Human Genetics, Evolutionary Biology, Plant Tissue Culture, Eukaryotic Genetic Engineering, Conservation Biology, Palynological Biology, Histology, Radiation Biology, Plant Evolution, Biology Seminar, Soil Ecology(in addition to above subjects, 12 other major subjects and 11 major laboratory ones are being operated.)
Facilities and education system
Since basic sciences must be an engine power driving the industry, it is essential to invest in them and foster the basic scientists for the future of nation's industry. In order to foster able basic scientists, our department is planning to improve the laboratory equipments and classroom environment in a revolutionary way and thereby, pursue a more substantial education of biology. In all, we are planning to provide for a higher-quality laboratory environment through improvement of curriculum, enhancement of educational environment and facilities and drastic investment in equipments and facilities.
We operate general biology laboratory, animal physiology laboratory, plant physiology laboratory, plant biosystematics laboratory and animal taxonomy laboratory, and additionally, joint instrument room, plant tissue culturing room, dark room, animal/plant sample room, animal raising room, etc. The joint instrument room has such expensive equipments needed for researchers as high speed centrifuge, ultracentrifuge, fluorescent microscopy, UV-Vis spectrophotometer, ultra-pure water apparatus, Cryostat microtome, electrophoresis system, refrigerated centrifuge, etc.
Advanced Science Camp
Our College of Natural Sciences operates an advanced science camp during summer vacation, in an effort to help foster able basic scientists and meet the needs of rapidly developing science and technology. High school first graders in the region are invited to participate in this four-day (three-nights) program in late July. We assure you of our renewed efforts to arrange a framework for development of the futuristic biology science as well as for operation of a leading biology education program.

What is Biology?
Biology is a discipline of science researching into various phenomena occurring in life to determine the essence of life. The discipline may be divided into molecule, cell, biochemistry, physiology, genetics, organism, organs, species, denomination, ecology, etc. After all, students learn about theories, while conducting a variety of experiments to understand the biological phenomena and principles.
What is life?
Any life on the earth consists of the basic units called 'cells'. The nucleus of the cell contains the DNAs which store all information on life activities. Any life starts from a DNA, which is inherited down to its offsprings. The discipline researching into such a life is called Biotechnology. We expect that the future for our offsprings will be more beautiful and richer.
Bioscience that benefits life
Now, Biology no longer remains in the realm of the simple natural science. It is being developed into a bioscience encompassing ethics and moral. The zenith of bioscience must be the human life. The discipline using bioscience is nothing other than biotechnology.
Future perspective and vision
Biosociety prevails in the 21st century
Now, advanced disciplines of science are expanding their domains into every sector of the society. Everything around us is changing too rapidly. It is said that we will witness an information-intensive bioindustrial society in the 21st century. If we should survive in the wave of the fourth revolution following agricultural, industrial and information revolutions, what shall we do in the new century?
Education aimed at fostering the bio-competent manpower needed by the new century
The rich knowhow which you will acquire from the programs provided for by Dept., of Biology will guide to a correct direction. Now, you should forget about the conventional thought that biology majors would not have a desirable future. This century is an age when healthy life, rich society and clean environment will be realized with the bioscience and biotechnology and thereby, a true humanism respecting human life will be materialized! We would like to urge you to realize your dream by studying biology being developed into bioscience or science based on life.
