| Past What's New For October 2003 | | October 31st 2003 Happy Halloween! Today is also The Annapolis Film Festival's Grand Opening! I may do a small performance at the opening function at Maryland Hall for The Creative Arts! If you love movies, GO to it! It starts tonight and runs until Sunday with all kinds of programs for the movie buff or new director or producer! All this is taking place right in Annapolis where I live! Check out the web site by clicking here! | | October 29th 2003 It was fun at Ledo Pizza Tonight! Lots of new faces and a few old ones. Even a few of my old friends stopped in. I even met a local Scientist who was boggled by what I did. Afterwards I went home and watched the ending of Smallville. I love that show because it's not just about "Superman" but a person dealing with life's issues. Then I watched the ending of Sling Blade, with Billy Bob Thorton, who wrote and directed it. Then I read a few magic books for new tricks to learn, then went to me. It's about 4 AM, so I have to get back to sleep. So, good night! | | October 28th 2003 Rain! Rain! Rain! It sucks! Tomorrow is Ledo Night, so stop on by and see some cool close up-magic! What is close-up magic? Well, it's the small stuff that is perform really close up right in front of your eyes for either a small group or one on one. Like card tricks, coins tricks or other magical illusions that can be pulled out of a pocket or briefcase. Small! I have been feeling a bit frustrated today! You have dreams! Do you have dreams? The kind that everyone expects you to live by, to search for and make happen? I remember since I was in high school (even before) my friends kept saying, "You're gonna make it in Hollywood someday!" Well, it's well past high school days and I haven't made it to Hollywood. Well, I was there, but for a brief moment. So, should I still peruse my dreams? Give up? What would you do? I have been into performing all of my life since I was about eight. I have been compared to the best of some entertainers. I have been given compliments that I felt only the stars of the world should get. I have been having an itch to move to Hollywood or some place where I could be creative and peruse my dream(s)! Well, I have many dreams. But I get quite frustrated with the daily life and have few people to talk about it with. I love making friends and chatted with people, learning and doing many things. But, when you get frustrated it's quite hard to just talk to people about it. Don't get me wrong, I love performing and I love what I do, but, there are some people who really do not appreciate what I do. I mean really appreciate all the time I put in to things I do for the B'day parties! I do several hundred parties a year (not counting the corporate and other shows like stage or street) and my shows are very high quality. I even spend several hours working on Birthday Party Certificates for each child I perform for. But, I feel sometimes, since I'm hired to perform for a bunch of kids that my time and skills are really not appreciated. Don't get me wrong, some, and very few show their appreciation for what I do and that seems to balance it out. It really bugs the hell out of me when people try to get my to change my prices. What do I look like? Who thinks this way? I'm not a yard sale item you can just bargain prices with. Then what gets me, is when some families who have more money then they know what to do with, book only a small show and try to milk it like it's a large show. Like they are poor or something, or spent way too much money on the cake. Give me a break! For these people I feel like hired labor or a clown that gets no respect. I really hate when people look at my ad, then ask, "Are you a clown? Do you do balloons? Do you do Barney? Do you do kids shows?" Can these people read? I can tell when someone is really "cheap" and doesn't really care about the quality or professionalism I offer. It's because the first question they ask me is, "How much do you charge?" They aren't even interested in the quality of the show or what I do. They just want me to "baby-sit" the kids for a while. I'm not a F#$king baby-sitter! Ugh! Yes, not everyone is "cheap" because they ask for the price first. There are the genuine few who are on a major budget but want to get a quality show for what they can afford. People do not realize the crap that some of us performers have to deal with on a day to day basis. Sorry, I had a lot on my chest to get off! Trust me, I could write a whole lot more on this subject. Well, I guess that is all for now, my fingers are really tired! See ya! | | October 26th 2003 It's really nice outside today! Wish I was kayaking or camping. I have two shows today, one party and one Halloween Party. I was hoping to write a bit more, but I have to go and will write something later. Have a great day! Okay! The first show was fine!!! The second show sucked! Big Time! Well, not the show, just the audience. That was the worst audience I have ever performed for, and it was at a church hall! The parents had NO respect for me and kept talking like they were out on a Sunday brunch. The kids sitting in the chairs were well behaved and enjoying the show. I must have told the parents to keep it down a dozen times, no lie! I'm way to tired to write anything, I'll have to finish it tomorrow. | | October 25th 2003 Don't forget to set your clocks back, like I did! I had two Halloween shows today, which went great. I finished with the chopping off the arm routine. One kid in the first show, son of the family that hired me said, "I don't want my hand cut off!" I said it's it's Halloween, it won't hurt a bit. Afterwards, he was relieved that I didn't chop off his hand. We went to old town Alexandria in Virginia last night after the shows. I did a bit a street performing, but not for money, just for fun. We saw a long line of people and investigated it. They were tourist, and all had little round stickers on their coats and jackets. So, I went over there and performed a bit improvising, and had a blast. Then we ate at Bullfeathers, which was on King Street! It was good! | | October 24th 2003 Sorry it's been a few days since my last post. Today was a beautiful day! I did a close-up strolling bit of magic for "Diocese of Arlington" for the Office of Catholic Schools at Biship O'Connell High School in Arlington, VA. There were teachers from 43 schools there and I walked around and entertained them. It was jam packed with teachers and "sisters" in the cafeteria. I was there for only an hour or so, stuffed my face with the yummy food there, then afterward I went to Al's Magic Shop in Washington DC on Vermont Ave. Click here for a complete list of magic shops in the area. Some, have no links to pages, but most do. I picked up a few things, mainly supplies, chatted with the new owner, Doc, and met a few new people. Tanya was with me, but mostly did studying - big exam coming up - but she hung out with me at the shop for a few, then we went to Union Station, yes the Union Station built in 1907. It's big! We went there and ate, then came home. I was so tired I just went to bed. Well, after a few hours, here I am writing a few words. I have four shows this weekend, two Birthday parties and two Halloween party shows! Well, I'm off to bed! Night! | | October 23rd 2003 Okay! Okay! So what is new? Well, it's getting freakin' cold outside. Winter is coming. That sucks! I may be performing at another Ledo Pizza in Severna Park, Maryland. Speaking of Ledo Pizza, last night went really well and there were a lot of new faces. There are quite a few regulars that come to see me. Yes, they come just to see me. Last night when I was leaving, this family that come to Ledo's often showed up when I was leaving, but I stopped by and did a few quickie tricks with a crayon. Tanya has been studying for school a lot to get her MBA. She's doing really well. We haven't performed at the Baltimore Inner Harbor in the past few weeks. It's getting a bit chilly out. No only that, my truck has been broken into a few times there, so I'm avoiding parking there. The Pratt Street side has now been closed off to street performers, so we had to park on the Light Street side, where you car doesn't get the best lighting and is a prime target for breaking and entering. So, what have I been doing lately? Well, a lot of web site updates, the "under the hood" kind that you don't see to much of. I have been working on a few pages, making the a bit more updated and "clean" to read. I added a few things to the B'day and Corporate/ school booking forms. Also, more links to the Magic and Mime books if you are interested in reading and learning those arts. I'll probably have DVD and videos up soon, so keep your eyes peeled. Please don't forget to send me feedback by signing my guest book. More photos have been added to the Web Shots page. What else, let me see, hmmmmmmmm. Well, that is it for now, it's about 7:30 in the morning and I have a busy day of running errands and cleaning my place, especially my office. Ohh! I did get another digital camera really cheap, an open box item, but I had to spend $200 for accessories. Like a better battery, 64 mg memory stick, charger (it got an adapter for the car), and a universal card reader. Well, I'll write later, see ya soon! :o) | | October 20th 2003 I got tickets for the David Copperfield show at the Warner Theater in DC on Dec. 5th. My Birthday!!! Yeah Baby! | | October 19th 2003 Ohhhhhhh! Chilly outside! The Weekend was great, shows went well! I didn't get a chance to make it to the Renaissance Festival for the final day. So, did you get your costume yet? Okay, I'm just rambling on here. Really tired! Good Night! | | October 15th 2003 Just got back from a show! It was fun! Now I'm off the get ready to go see Mystic River - a new movie that is out. See ya! | | October 14th 2003 What a busy weekend! I performed 4 shows and still made a little time to go to the MD Renaissance Festival. The shows all went well and there were no problems. Though I did have one party where the kids were quite rude. Yes, I set them straight!! No The parents weren't around at that time. It was for a small group, but I have never seen kids as rude as these. Even the drunks at the Baltimore Inner Harbor have more manners. No, I didn't say anything harsh or hurtful. I just told them what then needed to hear from a stranger. | | October 10th 2003 A busy Friday today! Cloudy today, so I may not be at the Baltimore Inner Harbor. I have a show later today also. I will be at Ledo Pizza this Tuesday instead of Wednesday. Well, I have to go get ready, see ya later! | | October 5th 2003 It's Sunday and a beautiful day at that! Tanya and I went out to the park for a run, ate breakfast at Grumps (which is right across from the entrance to Quiet Waters Park). Now I'm getting ready for a show I have later. We were going to the Renaissance Festival, but we'd be rushing and I wanna have fun! So, we didn't go this time. Well I have to go, but will write more later! | | October 4th 2003 Sad, sad news in the magic community! Roy, of ''Siegfried & Roy'' got bit by a tiger during a performance in Las Vegas. Just in case you don't know, they are one of the most popular magical acts in the world. They have been performing at the Mirage in Las Vegas for over 30 years. Click here to read about the Tiger Attack! I have a show today at 4:30 in Elkridge, Maryland. Not a very busy day, thank God! I have sooooo much catching up to do at home. But, as usual, I may go to a movie or do something. So, I will write some more later if I can. See YA! | | October 2 2003 Wednesday at Ledo Pizza was jam packed! Stop by and watch some incredible magic. There were a lot of people there, especially from other shows I have performed at. One family saw me at The Maryland Seafood Festival. Well, it's that scary time of the year again, so if you'd like me for Halloween, call me soon! | | CLICK HERE TO VIEW PAST WHAT'S NEW PAGES |
