Past What's New For January 2003
My thought of the dayJanuary 31st 2003 Yeah! It's Friday! And The Chinese New Year's eve. I just got back from doing laundry, working out and seeing 'Biker Boys' with Ting (Tanya). Ohhh! We also celebrated The Chinese New Year at RED LOBSTER and got the all you can eat shrimp!
My thought of the dayJanuary 30th 2003 HAPPY BIRTHDAY to NIRA, my beautiful assistant and wonderful friend! I got a few photos of her on her B'day at my place. hope to post them soon!
My thought of the dayJanuary 28th 2003 Good Evening! I'm a bit under the weather. But, I went to the gym anyway and had one of the best workouts ever. Ting (Tanya) is doing really good also. She couldn't even bench the "bench-bar" when she started. She's added 35 pounds since she's started a few months ago. Me? Lot's of gains! Normally I finish my last set at 60 pounds. But, I went up to pressing 80 pound dumbbells tonight for the fist time. And that was after already doing three sets and gradually increasing the weight. Yeah baby! Every time I work out I try to increase the weight. I'm also really pushing to be certified as a personal trainer. I would love to train during the slow times and in-between shows. I did a fundraiser show this weekend. a little article was in the News Paper on me. Nothing big, just a little "Things To Do" paragraph about the event I was performing at.
My thought of the dayJanuary 24th 2003 It's TGIF Again. Wednesday night at Red Robin was really fun! The tips were much better. Though $2 for 15 to 20 minutes of performing time is not very respectable. C'mon, I have worked hard for my money. Though, $3 would make me a bit happier! People, tipping a performer is not the same as tipping a waitress or waiter. On average, $5 dollars is best for professional entertainment tipping. If you even think about tipping $1, I think you better keep it. Because you may need it more than the performer. I had a few birthday's to celebrate and you can click here to see the photos. Harold was a cool ole' chap and had a lot of fun. And Kate or Katie? She was a fun little girl who just turned 15, big bright smile, lots of energy and guess, what? She love to perform and act. I wish her the best! Today, Friday, I did a little demo that was only suppose to be 10 to 15 minutes, went a bit longer. It was a pre-teaser-show for the tomorrow evening event. It went well, and I did a new effect where someone loans me a 100 dollar bill (but all I could get was a $1), which is signed, placed into an envelope and burned. You guessed it! The dollar was gone. Where did it go? Well, after the dollar was put into the envelope, I give the person who loaned the $1 a bag, with something in it as security, just in case the bill isn't returned. After the envelope is burned the bag is opened to reveal ... a lemon? Yes, a lemon. I then take a knife and cut it in half, and found inside is the signed bill! Wa lah! I also signed 60+ kids autographs. Wow! Okay, time for me to hit the sack. Nite!
My thought of the dayJanuary 19th 2003 I just woke up, so I have no idea what time it is. But I do know it is late, or early, depending on how you look at it. Kind of like when you think the glass of water is either half empty or half full depending on how you see it. I did all the shows this weekend by my self. My friend Ting (Tanya) was sick, and Nira was busy. It was a pretty busy weekend with four shows. Three on Saturday and one on Sunday. Things are picking up again. Well, the alarm just went off, so now I know, it is 6 AM! Happy birthday to Montayea, who turned six. I did her Birthday last year also. Tyler, who turned seven, and Aiden, who also turned seven. All shows went well and all the kids enjoyed the show. But, I have to say, the show I did for Antietam Radio Association the "Ham Radio Operator's" of Hagerstown, Maryland. It's about an hour and a half drive. So after performing two shows, then driving another long distance to perform was really exhausting. But, I loved the show I did for the Radio Association's 50th Anniversary. It was an all adult show with only one table that had two small kids. I did magic, a few mime sketches and they had a ball. I improvised a bit, also. The great feeling I got is when I was done performing and all the people that came up afterwards telling how much they loved the show and shook my hand. I was really happy I made a great addition to their 50th Anniversary party. The compliments were also very pleasing to hear and that they really appreciated me. One guy, and elderly gentleman said, "I know some who is in the business, but you are good, really good" and repeated it twice. Another came up, he didn't shake my hand, but was about fifteen or so feet away and said, "You are really good, I could watch you over and over again." That compliment made my night! Thank you whoever you were!!
Well, it's Monday morning, and I have to get ready to hit the gym, fixed my older crashed computer, pay bills, update my web site, work on Mama Jama's CD cover, practice a few new magical effects, take down my Christmas Tree (yes, it's still up), clean my place, work on my CD business card, and a few other things I can't think of at the present time.
My thought of the dayJanuary 16th 2003 It's really late, and it's SNOWING! Did some running around today. My Christmas tree is still up and I have no clue when I'll have the time to take it down. Ohhh! About this past Wednesday and Red Robin! Tips were bad. I performed my ass off and people weren't tipping. For two hours I made about 16 dollars! Are you nuts? I'm glad my living doesn't depend on tips. Some performers live off of tips, especially street performers. People, let me clue you in. If you are going to tip anything less than $5, keep it, chances are you need it more than I do. Hey it was a crappie night, but the people were wonderful and I got to perform a few new things. This weekend I've got four shows, so, hopefully things will be picking back up. Well, I'm tired, so I'm going to bed! Night!
My thought of the dayJanuary 15th 2003 Hey! I'm back. It's been busy and slow! Does that make sense? Well, I've been busy doing many things. Little updates on my site, art design for a band named Mama Jama. Check out their web site. They play some of the coolest music. I have performed on stage with them a few times. I did a few shows over the weekend and one this past Friday on the 10th of January that was the worst of worst shows! Why you ask? Well, I should say that it really wasn't the show. It was the audience. I had a bad audience, but this one took the cake and the icing. Two words! Bad planning. It was for the gym I go to, a local gym, and they had a Member's Party for people who missed the big Christmas party. I got there on time, set up, Nira was with me. Ting was in Vegas. Well, we were ready to perform, but were asked to perform later, and later, and later. Why? The TV was on and everyone was watching the football game. It was tied and they went into overtime! So, we waited an hour. Then people were drinking, and eating. We announced the show several times, but people were still watching TV. So, only a few people filled the room. We started the show. Well, then people started talking as if no one else was in the room. A show was going on, music was playing, and they were talking louder than the music. How disrespectful can a person be? No! It wasn't just one person, it was a few people. I had to whistle a few times. I was really loosing my patience. Well, we went through the show, and performed the Metamorphosis. Perfectly I might add! The few, maybe 20 or 30 people watching did enjoy the show and told the club managers they like it, etc. But the face that people were so rude made it so hard to give a good performance. So, I have to put down in my books that they were the worst audience ever! Even worse than a bunch of rowdy 5 years olds. Anyway, I had to get that off my chest.
In other news, I finished my 12 week Body for Life Challenge with Ting (Tanya Wu). We did pretty good. I may post some photos up. I will have a weekly fitness tip page soon also. If you ever want to get in to the best shape of your life change your body your life in as little as 12 weeks? The Body for life Challenge is the way to do it.
Ting wet to Las Vegas last week and while there, saw a few magic shows. Siegfried and Roy, The Magic Showgirls and some other acts. She said we were much better than a few of the acts. It's funny, because she was there a few times and never had an interest in seeing magic, but, after knowing me and performing with me, now she wanted to see what the other acts did. Well, I really hope to perform there some day soon, it has always been a dream of mine. A few days ago I pulled out some very old tapes of me performing. Some of them were contests I've won, other were performances on stage and for various events. I even had a few vintage tapes with me breakdancing! Wow! I may put a few up here. I got a real kick out of seeing them and it brought back some wonderful memories.
My thought of the dayJanuary 9th 2003 How is everyone? Me? Well, a friend took me out to a Japanese Steakhouse tonight and I had a blast. It was really fun! Yes, I even did some magic. Though I had a few Long Island Ice Teas, I think I did pretty good. My friend took me out for a belated birthday gift. I'm working on lots of stuff ... keep your eyes peeled, the feed back page is soon to rise. Good night!
My thought of the dayJanuary 5th 2003 It snowed again! We are on a roll. It's been a few years since it's snowed this much. The show went well this weekend. In the past few evenings I have been updating many things on my web site. Some of which you will probably never notice and others which I'm sure you will notice. My neck is really stiff! I woke up a few days ago with a really stiff neck and it been like this for four days. Yes, it hurts like hell, but the shows must go on. Ting is leaving for Vegas tomorrow night. I may go for a few days if I can. I hope to perform there this year. Well, I have to run and do some more updating. I'll be back with more. See Ya!
My thought of the dayJanuary 1st 2003 Happy New Year! Best wishes and I hope you all stick to your new years resolutions. This month is going to be a little slower for me, so now I can update more things on my site and practice some new magic.
