THREE PRETTY LULLABIES
(We hope to add the audio component so you'll be able to hear Three Pretty Lullabies beautifully sung by a very talented singer, Ingrid Barnett. In the meantime, here are the words to some pretty lullabies which we hope you can play in your head (they can sound good that way too!) and we hope will give you some comfort...
CRADLE SONG (Music by Brahms)
Lullaby and good night,
With roses bedight,
Creep into thy bed,
There pillow thy head.
If God will thou shalt wake,
When the morning doth break,
If God will thou shalt wake,
When the morning doth break.
ANOTHER VERSION...
Lullaby and good night,
In the sky stars are bright, while roses in bloom,
Fill with fragrance the room.
With the morning, if God will,
You will waken again;
With the morn, if God will, You will waken again.
Lullaby, have no fear, Guardian angels are near,
Their watch they will keep,
While children go to sleep.
Dream the dark night away,
Till God's sun brings the day;
Dream the dark night away,
Till God's sun brings the day.
ALL THROUGH THE NIGHT
Sleep, my child and peace attend thee
All through the night;
Guardian angels God will send thee,
All through the night.
Soft the drowsy hours are creeping
Hill and vale in slumber steeping,
I my loving vigil keeping
All through the night.
ALL THE PRETTY LITTLE HORSES
Hush a bye, don't you cry,
Go to sleep ye little baby.
When you wake, you shall take
All the pretty little horses.
Blacks and grays, dapples and bays
coach and six little horses,
Blacks and grays, dapples and bays,
Coach and six little horses.
Hush a bye, don't you cry,
Go to sleep ye little baby...
AND HERE ARE THREE SONGS I REMEMBER FROM SUMMER (GIRL SCOUT) CAMP:
AT THE GATE OF HEAVEN
At the gate of heaven, little shoes they are selling,
For the little bare-footed angels there dwelling,
Slumber my baby, slumber my baby,
Slumber my baby, aroo, aroo.
God will bless the children so peacefully sleeping,
God will bless their mothers, whose love they are keeping,
Slumber my baby, slumber my baby,
Slumber my baby, aroo, aroo.
BED IS TOO SMALL
Bed is too small for my tiredness.
Give me a hilltop of trees.
Tuck a cloud up under my chin.
Lord, blow the moon out, please.
Rock me to sleep in a cradle of dreams,
Sing me a lullabye of leaves.
Tuck a cloud up under my chin,
Lord, blow the moon out, please.
NOW THE DAY IS OVER
Now the day is over, Night is drawing nigh;
Shadows of the evening, Steal across the sky.
Through the long night-watches, May thine angels spread,
Their white wings above me, Watching round my bed.
When the morning wakens, then may I arise,
Pure and fresh and sinless, In thy holy eyes.
(Well, at camp we sang only the first verse - and softly let the last line fade out into the evening - it was soooo pretty...)
Good night and Sweet Dreams....
