The American Society of Addiction Medicine, made up of many recovering members just like me, has a disgusting and discriminatory clause in its own bylaws refusing members who have had their licenses revoked for no more than being an addict. This bizzare discrimination clause flies in the face of their policy statement saying that addiction among doctors is an occupational hazard and should not be handled in a disciplinarian or discriminatory fashion by licensing boards or the criminal justice system. Then they deliberately go out of their way to do exactly the same thing to doctors like me. Besides saying one thing and doing the opposite, they have a legal advocacy committee that I was attempting to arouse to action that says much, but does nothing. Before they realized I was unlicensed, I had attempted to rally this committee to action by having them pay for a legal brief on the Americans with Disabilities Act and its applicability to discriminated against doctors to begin the process of their actual advocacy for doctors like me. They refused, asking me to pay for it myself if I felt it was necessary. In actuality, they have absolutely no interest in doing any advocating whatsoever. They are playing games with addict's lives and futures in their own personal interest. Another example of lack of integrity in the addictionology community based on their fear of being rejected by the power structure of addict-haters throughout the country and desperate need to be accepted and forgiven for ever having been addicts. A very sad state for all of us. Thus, the dire need for our own advocate organization, the National Association for the Advancement and Advocacy of Addicts, N4A. We will never reject an addict who needs help or support.

This two faced and hypocritical behavior is from the "preeminent" addiction advocacy organization whose members include a high percentage of recovering doctors.

And I was naive enough to even join their group in the hope that they just needed some leadership and direction to get their act together to really start advocating for addicts no less doctor addicts.

THESE ARE DOCTORS WHO CLAIM TO BE ACTING IN ADDICT'S BEST INTEREST IN DETOXES AND REHABS THROUGHOUT THE COUNTRY. THEY CERTIFY MANY DOCTORS WHO CALL THEMSELVES "BOARD CERTIFIED" IN ADDICTION MEDICINE. CAN YOU IMAGINE BEING TREATED BY THESE BIGOTS AND ADDICT HATERS? THIS DICOTOMY BETWEEN TALK AND ACTION IS TRUE CORTICLIMBIC DISSOCIATION AS DISCUSSED IN MY BOOK. RECOVERING DOCTORS WHO HAVE JOINED THE OTHER SIDE IN ORDER TO BE ACCEPTED BY THE POWER STRUCTURE OF THE ADDICT HATING MEDICAL AND POLITICAL COMMUNITIES.
