Beyond The Farthest Star By Thomas B. Wallace Looking out beyond the farthest star,In the night sky a black space in between, Betelgeuse and Polaris, the dog star, northern beacon, I see the eye of God looking in at me, And there is a question on His iris, An interogative in the arch of His brow, a face never seen, But an expression none-the-less, That says, Why – why have you turned your back on Me? Is it that I am beyond the farthest star, or as close as the nearest heart? Why have you taken My child and saddened Him so? What have I done to you? Given you choices? Then refused to take the blame when you choose like a fool? Made you a mind after my own? Then remained unapologetic because I did not give you all he answers? Lifted you up in my eyes to see a universe you would not comprehend? Gave you a poet’s heart? Then did not save you the pain your verses have caused me? What have I done to you that makes you hate so, hate me, hate others, desire to kill your own children while yet they inhabit The womb of your thoughts? You drove me from you, and I found a way back, You drove me from you again and again, I found a way back. Finally, my most precious self came and you cannot drive me from you any longer, Because now, I am you, a man, a woman, Having lived my life, hurt my hurts, laughed my joys, grieved for you, grieved for me, died my deaths, I am here now, not beyond the farthest star, why say you stay away? I cannot, I will not any longer, And though you rail against me, though you deny my eyes, Though my heart beats next to your ear and you hear it not, You will know, soon, That I Am.
