Why do rabbits eat their own droppings? According to Frances N. Chrystie in "PETS: A Comprehensive Handbook for Kids," night droppings are different from the hard pellet-like day droppings. Night droppings contain partially broken down food and bacteria. Rabbits nibble at the droppings to get extra vitamins that weren't digested the first time.
