Join the International Institute of Bengal Basin (IIBB)

 

IIBB is a unique network of individuals committed to work primarily on environmental issues that affect the people of the Bengal Basin, with special emphasis on protecting drinking water.  We have recently branched out into other issues: public health, education, information technology, human rights and housing.

 

Membership:

 

         Honorary memberships are for those individuals whose principal interest is to help Bengal Basin efforts through monetary contributions to/sponsorship of projects and activities of the Institute.

         Associate memberships are for those individuals whose principal interest is to volunteer their time and expertise to the Institute's projects and activities in Bengal Basin.

 

 

How do I Join IIBB?

 

Joining IIBB is easy:

 

  1. Email IIBB at IIBengalBasin@gmail.com or thru the Message Center in our website www.nvo.com/ghosh_research by filling up the information and indicate that you want to be contacted regarding IIBB membership.

 

  1. Call us at 1-510-841-3253 and inquire about IIBB membership.

 

  1. Download our Membership Application, complete the information requested and send by email or by mail to International Institute of Bengal Basin (IIBB) address.

     

    •          Please download and complete the application form and submit to IIBB.     IIBB membership application.doc
    •          Save IIBB membership application.doc as a Word document and send by email as attachments to IIBengalBasin@gmail.com.
    •          Or Mail the completed form to the International Institute of Bengal Basin, 2507-09 McGee Avenue,Berkeley,CA-94703.

 

 

Once your membership application is approved, you will be requested to pay necessary membership dues. You will receive a membership confirmation form by mail, email or fax. 

 

Membership Benefits

 

IIBB is an organization that puts emphasis on (a) human development; (b) knowledge exchange and generation; and (c) resource development to promote better understanding of the problems, issues and concerns in Bengal Basin in the areas of ecology, public health, education, information technology, human rights and housing. Below are IIBB benefits and services.

 

  • Participation in IIBB projects and activities
  • Special/discounted participation fees in IIBB conferences/symposia/meetings.
  • Priority in the allocation or availability of accommodation, whenever available, during IIBB conferences/symposia/meetings)
  • Free access to all IIBB publications and research studies.
  • Inclusion in the Roster of Experts.  These experts will be tapped for IIBB research studies and projects.
  • Access to IIBB facilities, where available, when attending conferences/symposia/meetings organized by other international or national organizations.
  • Opportunity to conduct joint research or project with IIBB, including studies leading to higher degrees on ecology, eco-toxicology, groundwater, hydrogeology, environmental problems and issues of Bengal Basin, and allied field of studies.
  • Access to IIBB experts for advice.
  • Government and non-profit organization where a member is employed can receive pro bono consulting services up to 5 hours (US$200/hour) which may include Hazard Ranking System (USEPA HRS) for a toxic waste site or facility and reduced fees for additional services. The same benefit is available for small business and property owners.
  • Access to technology/information/data generated by IIBB through its research and projects or made available to IIBB for implementing its projects on environmental and ecological issues, particularly on protecting drinking water resources, public health, education, information technology, human and housing and women's rights.
  • Opportunities for internship at the IIBB Headquarters in Berkeley, California, USA for 3 to 6 months. IIBB will provide Board and lodging for the duration of the internship program.  Women and minorities are encouraged to apply. Basic computer knowledge is essential. Proficiency in English is an asset. Voluntary work include: data entry; handling donation of used books; assisting in recruiting volunteers and raising funds; translating English articles to Bengali and Hindi, and other languages; and  conducting internet research on scholarly works on Bengal Basin's ecology, environment, public health, geology,  and toxics. Other research areas are:  how to use USEPA Hazard Ranking System in Indian continent; mobilizing communities in emerging economies to work on mitigating pollution and protecting water resources primarily the deeper production aquifers; population dynamics; impact of colonization on the Indian culture and religion; issues concerning casteism, and human rights issues in Bengal Basin.  You may also submit a proposal on how you can help the Bengal Basin. You may conduct these works from your home if you cannot afford to travel. We may partially assist in publishing your work. Please note that IIBB is not an employment agency.  

 

Interested candidates for internship or research may send their resume, proposal and a request letter to the Executive Director, IIBB, 2507 McGee Avenue, Berkeley, CA-94703, USA. You may need two reference letters if you are not IIBB volunteers.
