The First Asian Nobel Laureate, world poet, writer, philosopher Kabi Guru Rabindranath Tagore established a unique university in Santiniketan, West the western part of Bengal Basin) named 'Visva-Bharati'. It means the place where the world worships the knowledge. He is an undisputed son of Bengal Basin. too. The proposed 'Visva Bharati'University to be established in Kishoreganj (Bajitpur), Bangladesh (eastern part of Bengal Basin) will open a new chapter in the Bengal Basin's cultural history. Dr. Rash Bihari Ghosh, Chairman of IIBB firmly believed that Visva Bharati University should have been established in Bangladesh at least 50 years ago. It was a great blunder not to have a Tagore University in Bangladesh immediately after independence of Bangaldesh. We have done an injustice to the young generation and deprived them of secular education. The younger generations are unable to acquire the knowledge of invaluable cultural resources that world poet Tagore and other leaders left behind us to improve the quality of life. The people of Bangladesh failed to utilize these invaluable resources for a better future for the country. The contribution of Tagore in Bengali literature, songs and music are significant. The national anthem of Bangladesh and India are both written by Tagore. Dr. Ghosh first proposed this idea to Professor Dilip Sinha (former Vice-Chancellor of Visva Bharati. Professor Sinha has initiated the paper work and pursued further Dr. Sujit Basu, present Vice-Chancellor of Visva Bharati University. The former President of Bangladesh, Dr. Budruduza Choudhury also took interest to create such a university in Bangladesh.
