Alice and Matt Gambardella: Founders The story of the Gambardella restaurants Alice and Matt Gambardella and their eight children are from New Haven, Connecticut. The Gambardella's operated a restaurant there called the San Remo. In the early seventies the family moved to Fairbanks, Alaska. They operated a restaurant in Fairbanks in the mid seventies called "Gambardella's". It was on South Cushman St. In 1987 this store, Gambardella's Pasta Bella on Second Ave., was opened in Fairbanks, by Matt and Alice Gambardella. The original concept was a gourmet take-out but customer demand added dining room after dining room. The family also owned locations in Florida and two in the Seattle area. The Fairbanks store is currently their only restaurant. The business is operated by Lisa (daughter) with the help of her daughter Alicia. (907) 457-4992
