 EXOTHERMIC CUTTING EQUIPMENT - PRINCIPLE
The generic burning bar is a metal tube with high carbon steel rods full length. Connect a oxygen hose and with oxygen blowing through it, an oxygen/acetylene torch or electric spark is used to ignite it.
SEI Exothermic Cable makes this technology safer, simpler and user friendly. Burning bar (Thermal Lances) technology has been used for decades. The principle is simple - mild steel makes a very good fuel when oxygen enriched. Example: expose a pad of steel wool to a spark or flame and note as you blow on the steel wool it burns more ferocioulsy. Ridgid rods (mini burning bars) burn at 5500 degrees centigrade or higher, creating an immense amount of explosive gases and ultraviolet radiation.
OPERATION SEI Exothermic Cable is designed to burn at 4000 degrees centigrade, thus creating a minimal amount of explosive gases and is at the very bottom of the ultraviolet range. (i.e. can be used without any UV protection, above or below the water).
SEI designed its Exothermic Cable as a flexible torch made of a 6 x 19 coreless mild steel wire, extruded in a polypropylene coating which allows oxygen to be blown through the center of the wire. When a spark is applied to the end of the cable, it begins to burn at consumption rate of approximately two (2) feet per minute and will continue to burn until the oxygen is turned off. SEI Exothermic Cable is supplied in 6mm and 9mm at 50 foot lengths, and 12mm at 100 ft. lengths. Each roll is equipped with a 1/4" npt female end fitting on both ends, which allow the user to cut the cable roll in half, using 1/2 at a time or cut one end fitting off and use the entire length, resulting in a continuous cutting of up 25 minutes.
Federal Regulations stipulate that compressed gas bottles must be hydro tested every five (5) years.
Cylinders should be inspected at each re-filling.
