Bicentennial Celebration: Phase II |

The Annie Louise Williams McKoy Archives & Research Committee sponsored many activities during the 200th year celebration in honor of our founding Father, Henry Evans. Members of the church participated in monthly activities beginning with the "Unity Celebration" of the Methodist Bodies (United Methodist, African Methodist Episcopal, Christian Methodist Episcopal, and African Methodist Episcopal Zion). |
Unity Celebration (June 3, 2001)
The "Unity Celebration" was a coming together and "forgiveness for the past" ask Bishop Marion Edwards (United Methodist) gave in his deliverance, and accepted by Bishop George E. Battle, Jr. (African Methodist Episcopal Zion). Evans Metropolitan Church was full to capacity. The pictures below highlight some of the "Bicentennial Celebration: Phase II Activities." Church Honored By The State (June 30, 2001) Annie Louise Williams McKoy Archives Research Committee traveled to Raleigh, NC to receive Proclamation in Honor of Father Henry Evans and Evans Metropolitan A. M. E. Zion Church. The Bill was introduced and passed in both the Senate and House the same day. The Bill was introduced in the Senate by Senator Anthony "Tony" Rand and by Representative Mary McAllister in the House. The Archives Committee received a standing ovation by both Legislative Bodies. |

Fourteenth Annual Archives Day Celebration ( July 28, 2001) The Annual Annie Louise Williams McKoy Archives Day Celebration is the last Sunday in July. The 2001 celebration was in honor of Mrs. McKoy for her contributions to the church, community and the Archives. During the celebration, the Archives Committee was named in her honor. Mrs. McKoy is one of the chartered members of the Archives Committee since its inception in 1983. |

"Bicentennial Mother"

Mrs. Lollie Mae McKoy was the daughter of Mr. Henry Clay Williams and Sarah Jane Williams. She was the sixth child of seven children. Mrs. McKoy was married to Mr. Willie Roosevelt McKoy. She is the mother of eight children. She is a grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother, and great-great-great grandmother. She joined Evans Metropolitan A. M. E. Zion Church in 1948, and has lived a faithful Christian life. It is her personal belief that the Lord purposed her life to guide others to Christ. This belief is vividly displayed in her visits with the sick and shut-in, the Sunday school, Parent Body Missionary Society No. 1, Maggie Lett Gospel Choir, Life Member Council, Willing Workers Club, Deaconess Board, Class Leader, and the Prayer Band. She loves to sing, to plant flowers, and watch them grow. However most of all, she loves reading her Bible. Each day starts and ends with reading the Bible. Favorite Scripture: 91st Psalms. (November 21, 1906 - March 14, 2001) |

Nia Ashley Hill is the daughter of Desiree Murphy and the granddaughter of Mr. & Mrs. William & Vernell Murphy. Nia was born September Nia Ashley Hill (2 months old). |
"Bicentennial Graduate"

Len Miller is a 2001 graduate of Hillside High School in Durham, North Carolina. During his tenure at Evans Metropolitan Church, he was "Young Man of The Year", Assistant Superintendent of Sunday School, member of the Youth Choir, member of the Junior Usher Board, and a member of the Junior Steward Board.
Len is the son of Dr. Lawrence A. Miller & Mrs. Peggy G. Miller, former Pastor and "First Lady" of Evans Metropolitan A. M. E. Zion Church.
