Texas History teachers, I received the following email from Ms. Galindo. If you can help her with out of adoption textbooks, lesson plans or kits, it would be appreciated.

HELP!
Dear Dee Ann,
I love your Texas website! I am the head of a private school in San Antonio for children with learning problems. We have been using HRW’s “Texas, our Texas” textbooks for 7th grade Texas History. The books are getting so expensive to replace, so I began searching the internet for a different curriculum but I have not found anything else. Could you recommend a different text? Thank you for your time, Susan Galindo sgrccs@sbcglobal.net
To mark the anniversary of the signing of the U.S. Constitution on September 17, 1787, Congress has asked that educational institutions take one day to teach the document that shaped America's democratic government. In support of students and teachers in their studies, a variety of online resources are available from the Federal Resources for Educational Excellence (FREE) web site. Additional resources are available from the National Archives and Records Administration and the National History Education Clearinghouse. For more information, please go to http://www.ed.gov/policy/fund/guid/constitutionday08.html
Also, on Constitution Day/Citizenship Day, schools are encouraged to participate in "Pledge Across America." The synchronized Pledge will begin at 2:00 p.m. EDT; 1:00 p.m. CDT; 12:00 noon MDT; 11:00 a.m. PDT; 10:00 a.m. in Alaska; and 8:00 a.m. in Hawaii. Swedish Texans
-
"Swedish settlement was rural at first but near urban centers. Later settlement patterns were urban. Svenska kullen, or “Swedish hill,” in downtown Austin was home to almost 50 Swedish families. Settlers located in and near Austin, Dallas, Ft. Worth, and Waco, as well as smaller towns. Some Texas place names indicate a Swedish origin or namesake, even though all did not become places of exclusive Swedish settlement: Lund, New Sweden, Swedonia, West Sweden, Palm Valley, Swensondale, Stockholm, Ericksdahl (Ericsdale), and Govalle (dialect for “good grazing”). Texas Beyond History
-
"Texas Beyond History is rich in information and resources to help you teach about the past in Texas, using archeology as a lens for discovery. In this section are lesson plans for both elementary and secondary grades based on the objectives of the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) and the related Texas Assessment of Academic Skills (TAAS) and Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS). All of these lesson plans were written by experienced teachers enrolled in graduate courses at The University of Texas at Austin. Each lesson can be downloaded and printed for easy use in class. Los Adaes Site Explorer
-
Los Adaes Site Explorer tells the story of an 18th century Spanish presidio and mission that played an important role in the balance of French, Spanish, and Caddo Indian power in North America. The settlement marked the eastern frontier of the Spanish Province of Texas, and it served as the provincial capital for more than 40 years. The present-day archaeological site is a National Historic Landmark and a State Historic Site that is open to the public. The online exhibit provides an opportunity for the public to learn about life at the site, as revealed through history and archaeology. The
website presents interactive maps, artifact photographs, and illustrations, as well as summary text and supplementary historical documents. Its innovative layered design allows users to determine the amount and complexity of information received.
