The Butterfly Farm
http://www.butterflyfarm.co.cr/ed/index.htm
This site, selected by the SciLinks Program sponsored by the National Science Teachers Association, is a wonderful resource for learning about butterflies. It contains a photo gallery and a student resource guide containing units such as butterfly physiology, pupa stage and the difference between moths and butterflies. The site can be used in English or in Spanish.
Electric Heart (from NOVA Online) http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/eheart/
One of many online resources at NOVA, this program tells the story of the pursuit of a practical artificial heart. Here's what you'll find online:
1) Map of the Human Heart: how the human heart works with an automatically changing color graphic of a heart in cross-section;
2) Amazing Heart Facts;
3) Artificial Human;
4) Pioneering Surgeon: O. H. Frazier: O. H. Frazier has done more heart transplants than anyone else alive, well over 700. He talks about his work, his thoughts, and his hopes;
5) Operation: Heart Transplant: try your hand as a heart-transplant surgeon in this simplified online procedure;
6) additional resources.
EnvironMinute Index
Some of the scripts are available with audio. Audio files require RealAudio Player. [Download RealAudio Player now]
The pieces are written, voiced, and distributed by an independent radio syndicator, Finger Lakes Productions, Inc., of Ithaca, New York. This project is funded by the Teresa and H. John Heinz III Foundation.

JungleWalk
-
"JungleWalk contains extensive links to animal movies, sound clips, photos, and information. Organized in layman terms rather than scientific classification to keep the site accessible to the younger crowd. The site is a great resource, especially when combined with other web resources lacking sound and video. Animals include these categories:
Single-Celled, Sponges, Coelentrates, Worms, Insects, Arachnids, Crustaceans, Molluscs, Echinoderms, Invertebrates, and Vertebrates. Can also browse alphabetically by animal or use a keyword search."

Dinosaur Planet
-
"They're wilder, woollier, and more menacing than ever! In true Discovery Channel style, the land before time lives again with all new, recently identified dinosaurs rendered in scary detail. Bang foreheads and exchange vital stats with the oldest inhabitants of Asia and Europe, then reach out to their rowdy and horny cretateceous cousins across the primordial pond. Do you prefer more intimate face time? The DinoViewer provides it, with 360-degree, rotatable views of 20 dinosaurs and their unique body parts. In an us-versus-them, glad-they're-extinct moment, compare their superior reptilian frames
with our squishy mammalian form, and watch how they might have chased after us with stunning animation. Tune into the Discovery Channel special for more on the evolution of each dynamic and fascinatingly bizarre creature. Then breathe a sigh of relief that (at least for now) it's a mammal planet."
