The Kansas Bureau of Investigation is required by law to maintain a registry of the whereabouts of all convicted sex offenders known to reside in Kansas.  The purpose of this registry is to allow citizens to know whether a person with a history of committing sex offenses is residing nearby.  This information may be helpful to citizens in being more aware of their surroundings, particularly for citizens with small children.
