Surgical Technology

The Surgical Technology program is a two-year Associates degree of Applied Science (AAS)(five successive semesters). At the conclusion of the program the prospective graduates are required to sit for the national certification exam. !4 new students are admitted each fall. Attendance is taken seriously. Grade reduction may apply for poor attendance.

Application Process

All prospective students are required to schedule a meeting with a Lakeland counselor to review transcripts. After meeting with a counselor each new student is required to meet with the program director to review the process and expectations of the program. The program director’s signature is required on each application before it will be accepted. Acceptance is first come-first served. When accepted a letter of acceptance is sent by the admissions coordinator with a confirmation return-reply. Students are advised to register for SURG1100 as soon as the registration option opens in May of the year preceding the first course.

Surgical Technology as a career
Surgical Technology is an exciting and rewarding career. Our graduates frequently are hired in the same OR where they performed clinical rotations. Many Lakeland grads serve as clinical preceptors for our students. The tradition of teamwork started in the program is supported in the clinical environment. After graduation 28% of graduates enter the nursing program as the next step in the professionalization of perioperative patient care.

Our patients are our prioity
