Congratulation on Emma's adoption. Secondly, I want to thank you for posting info about the Seeley Collie Seizure and the shelter where they were being housed. By the way....the people that we met from the shelter are very kind. Thank you.
We had never been dog parents, but had both been around collies when we were children. We knew the kind and gentle souls that they are....and also the fireballs of energy that the younger ones are. I wanted a dog that I didn't have to housetrain, and one that was a bit older...one that I wouldn't be responsible for spaying or care afterwards. That is a hard part for me, to see them in pain. Emma was who we hoped to adopt.
However, feeling that we had wasted over a year waiting for YOUR Emma, we went onto the Seeley Collie Seizure site and the SPCA of Upstate NY. One January morning we loaded the kids into the car and drove almost 2 hours to their Pet adoption days. We came home with a most precious cargo asleep on the kid's laps all of the way. We adopted a collie mix who was rescued from Tennessee. She was just 11 weeks old. She was on the list to be euthanized at the shelter where she was housed and had been a transported rescue to NY the day before.
Yes, I had to housetrain her in the middle of a cold January. I liken it to potty training a child. I have had 3. Yes, I had to hold her after she was spayed and care for her and it was hard. Yes, I had to teach her not to bite or to chew on things she shouldn't. She knows that her toys are for that now and she has a bucket full. She is a genius and she is totally loved. She plays soccer every day with the kids. She runs and jumps and is very happy, healthy, and wonderful. She is now 6 months old. She is a beauty and turns heads where ever she goes, but more importantly, she is ours.
I am very happy that they didn't have the same hoops that your organization does. I only had to wait 9 months for a baby....not a year and a half for a puppy. I know that you are trying to do the best for the dog, but from what I have seen, overkill is an obvious adjective. By the way....our puppy's name is Emma.
