10-Inch Rodman, M1861

-

The cast iron was poured into the mold around a water-cooled core, the concept being to freeze the molten metal from its bore outward, pushing impurities toward the exterior. Rodman guns were also cast with ratchets, not knobs, to adjust elevation.
