Description of Recycling Processes
used by Amazon Environmental, Inc.

Amazon Environmental, Inc. provides services for the 100% recycling of latex paint and chemically similar materials. The cost is competitive with alternative disposal or recycling methods. We follow a strict hierarchy for recycling to ensure that waste materials are put to their best possible use.  AEI operated a facility in Long Beach, CA for three years prior to moving to  in Whittier, CA in July of 1998.  Recently we moved the Whittier operations to a new, larger facility in Riverside, CA.  This allows us to better coordinate our operations with our location in Colton, CA.  We also have  a recycling facility in Roseville, MN.

1) Recycling into paint (for reusable paints)

The primary method used to ensure a high quality recycled paint product is the careful sorting of individual containers.  Each container is opened and inspected to determine if the paint is still usable.   Typically only 50% of the paints received at our facility meet our criteria for re-use as paint.

Reusable donation quality paints received are coarse strained, mixed into 500-700 gallon batches and made available to clients in 55-G drums. Available colors vary but are typically earth tones such as gray or beige.  The paints can be applied with rollers or brushes and offer excellent coverage. This paint works great for graffiti abatement

Clients can purchase standard or custom colors in 5 or 55-gallon containers. Amazon Select (tm) high quality paints are fine strained, filtered, tinted, viscosity adjusted, have had preservatives added, and may be used without a problem in an airless sprayer.

Dunn-Edwards Paint Company (www.dunn-edwards.com) sells recycled paints manufactured by Amazon Environmental, Inc. under the brand name "Recover" in Arizona, California, Colorado, Nevada,  New Mexico, and Texas.

Amazon directly markets our high quality recycled paints in other states and countries.

Non-reusable paints (skins, soured paints, off-colors)are used to manufacture Processed Latex Pigment (PLP), a patented additive for portland cements.

Amazon owns the patent for the Latex Management System, a unique process for using water-based paints and similar materials to manufacture (PLP). The production of PLP allows us to use 100% of the materials accepted for recycling. Thus even non-reusable paints are made into a commercial product.
